Biography
Sunny Kim (B. 1969, South Korea) reconstructs emotions of loss and displacement into landscape-driven images, blurring the boundary between reality and illusion.
Kim received her BFA from Cooper Union, N.Y. and her MFA from Hunter College, N.Y. She has exhibited at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul, Deoksugung, Gwacheon), The National Museum of Art (Osaka), Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul), HITE Collection (Seoul), Palo Gallery (New York), llmin Museum of Art (Seoul), A-Lounge (Seoul), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), Daegu Art Museum (Daegu), A.P.T Gallery (London), Culture Station Seoul 284 (Seoul), Korean Cultural Center UK (London), and Artists Space (New York), among others. She has held residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, Ucross Foundation, Triangle, and MMCA Residency Changdong. She has received grants from the Arts Council Korea, Platform Choice at Incheon Art Platform, and New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She was nominated for the Korea Artist Prize 2017 and exhibited at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (Seoul). She divides her time between New York and Seoul.
