Sunny Kim
Sunny Kim (b. 1969, Seoul, Korea) reconstructs emotions of loss and displacement to blur boundaries between reality and illusion. She collages fragments of her memories and time, both experienced and imagined, to build emotional and sensory landscapes. Kim’s world constantly edits itself between imagination, hope, and darkness - while maintaining a unique sense of depth and grounding.
Kim received her BFA from Cooper Union, N.Y. and her MFA from Hunter College, N.Y. Exhibitions include the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul and Gwacheon), The National Museum of Art (Osaka), Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul), lmin Museum of Art ( Seoul), Kunstalle Wien (Vienna), A.P.T Gallery (London), and Artists Space (New York), among others. She held residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, Ucross Foundation, and MMCA Residency Changdong, and received grants from the Arts Council Korea, Platform Choice at Incheon Art Platform, and New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She was selected for the Korea Artist Prize 2017 and exhibited at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA, Korea) in 2002, 2016, 2017, and 2021.
